The history behind...
In 1909 the late Swedish writer Hjalmar Söderberg visited Dragør, where he stayed at the hotel. He stayed at one of the smaller rooms located at the hotels easten side - the room had a balcony - and he spend a lot of time overlooking Oresund which he described in one of his books as: A colossal monocular placed on the hotels front side veranda. He described the buildings and towers he could see in Sweden and many ships passing by out on Oresund. Building of Dragør Fortress begun in 1910, so the view in 1909 must have been quite unique. This wasn't the only thing Hjalmar Söderberg was looking at - he used his monuclar all the time, pointed on the Bathing Club nearby to see all the ladies there. |
