Interesting Copenhagen Area Attractions in 2008

  • Winter Jazz Festival in Denmark
    Friday January 25th is the opening of the jazz event, Winter Jazz, taking place for the 8th time. At 50 venues around the country almost 200 jazz concerts will be presented over the 10 days of the festival. Jazz in all aspects are performed: Jazz for children, jazz competitions, jazz awards, jazz for fun and much more. This year there is a special focus on Nordic jazz. The last couple of years Winter Jazz has become a Nordic event. Norway, Sweden and Åland island have their own Winter Jazz festivals before and after the Danish edition. Nordic tours have emerged from this collaboration with a total of 32 concerts with these bands and orchestras:

  • NatFilm Festival, 01 Mar 2008 - 30 Apr 2008
    Hosted by cinemas all over Copenhagen, the annual NatFilm Festival is the biggest and most prestigious film event in Denmark. Each year the programme includes approximately 150 films from about 50 different countries and promises audiences an eclectic range of screenings.
  • Glitnir Copenhagen Marathon 2008 - Sunday May 18, 2008
    Glitnir Copenhagen Marathon 2008 is one of the oldest town marathons in Europe. This year will have 28th anniversary and the organizers expect 7500 competitors. The course gives the runners and spectators a chance to meet more than once. The course takes you by numerous historic sights and landmarks in Copenhagen.

  • Tivoli Gardens 17 April – 21 September 2008 Copenhagen
    Denmark's most popular tourist attraction is simultaneously an institution, a bearer of tradition, a national symbol and a limited company. Not only is it one of the world's oldest amusement parks - the one that gave Walt Disney the idea for his Disneyland - it is also the 3rd most visited of its kind in Europe.

  • Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix 2-3 August Copenhagen
    Race at the center of Copenhagen with classic cars participating in a thrilling race around the major park of the Copenhageners, Fælledparken. The Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix is one of Europe's two largest and most interesting street races (the other one is the historic grand prix in Monaco in mid-May) showcasing some of the best historic motor racing machinery the world has seen.

  • European Beer Festival 12-14 September Copenhagen
    The festival will take place in some of the - by then - cleared premises of the old Carlsberg breweries as the company will be moving its industrial beer production to Jutland. During the festival you will have the opportunity to visit some of the special Carlsberg premises such as the beer cellars and the horse stables, and during the week leading up to the festival, a number of beer related activities can be experienced in Copenhagen.

  • Night of Culture Mid-October Copenhagen/Esbjerg/Aalborg/Aarhus
    More than 700 cultural offers all over the city will be available to the public from 6pm to 12 pm. Last year 60.000 curious and adventurous pass holders took advantage of the unique opportunity to experience an exciting evening of cultural exploration and to visit some of the buildings and institutions which are normally not open to the public. Approximately 300 venues are ready to welcome you. Access is obtained with a Night of Culture badge which gives free admission to events and free public transport within Greater Copenhagen.

  • Christmas in Tivoli Mid-Nov./End-December Copenhagen
